Michigan State Highways

Otsego County has two rest areas and three State Highways: I-75, M-32, and the Business Loop on Old 27. One rest area is located on the northbound lane just south of Gaylord, and the other is located on the southbound lane just south of Vanderbilt. The State takes care of most signing, paving, and bridge work on these trunklines but has contracted with the Otsego County Road Commission to take care of the maintenance work.

The Road Commission has a separate crew and foreman for the State trunklines who are responsible for 188 lane miles of trunkline in the County. These duties include blading shoulders, picking up litter, mowing, patching blacktop, repairing guardrails, hauling trash, and repairing right-of-way fences.

The Transportation Service Center in Gaylord handles all permits for moving on State highways (driveway, sign, seismic, etc.). The Motor Carrier Division of the State Police patrols for permit and over-weight violations.
